Team Double W's annual speedfest known as the Turkey Day 100

was held Friday under crisp cool conditions at the Hayton Farms

testing facility in Carbondale IL.

The object is to get the younger generation involved in a day of

outdoor recreation that includes off roading, trail riding and even

wheel to wheel racing around the perimeter of the 120 acre spread.

Walter the oldest member of the clan tended the fire and manned

the pits keeping the quads full of fuel and providing instruction.

Timmy was on hand with his 5-1600 Baja complete with fresh

motor/transmission and dominated the speed charts early. Vern

did time in the WSORR test mule Magnum as the team continues

to work the bugs out of this machine. Body man Alvin did time

in both machines giving detailed feedback as his training continues

as he got both this daughters noses dirty in the process.

We got a flashback when Walter took the helm of the Baja and

turned in what appeared to be the fastest times of the day one

thing we know is he got the top honors according to the memory

tach with a whopping 6700 rpm shift in with all others at 6K or

below. The St. Louis chapter made the trip 4 strong with their off

road cart and turned laps be fore an ignition anomoly temporarily

stumped all the professional technicians in the group. Of course

Vern was trying to rig Type 1 VW parts on the Chinese mfg unit.

It now appears the team is headed into the off season with plenty

of work to get done before the 2008 season unfolds in the Spring.
