Double W Racing successful in 2008 season opener.

Team Double W was in action this past weekend as the
2008 MAORA season opened at the LTM facility in Casey,
IL. An early season opener coupled with a very wet Spring
season had the conditions a little less than perfect at Casey.
Timmy and Vern skipped practice and the LTM track crew
worked hard to get the track dried for the fast paced action.

HEAT 1

A blind draw had Vern inside middle and Timmy outside, Vern
got the holeshot only to be stalked by the Lucas Oil entry for
the first lap. Timmy meanwhile was stuck in traffic after the slick
conditions had him stuck in arrears. On Lap 2 the Lucas car
made the move to first, Vern fell in line as he was adapting to the
Magnum. Timmy made his move up to 3rd on lap 6 and held that
position nursing his fresh motor.

Heat 2

With Timmy on pole he wasted little time grabbing the holeshot
Lucas and Vern followed and both made bonzai moves on Timmy
in the uphill section of the course. Lucas used the outside momentum
as he bolted to the lead with Vern close behind. Timmy kept pace
with the leaders fighting mud and roost as the field headed for the
checkers and finished that way.

Heat 3

Vern again grabbed the holeshot on the slick starting grid and led the
field for the first 3 laps, Lucas got loose in turn 5 on lap 2 with Timmy
on his heels. On lap 3 Lucas once again had chased down Vern and
made the pass in turn 1 and was headed for the checkers, Timmy was
fighting hard in 3rd and claimed a hard fought 2nd when Vern suffered
mechanical issues on lap 10.

Overall: Timmy 2nd, Vern 3rd

3 HOUR ENDURO

Sunday morning the team woke up to and overcast day as they prepped
Vern's Magnum and Timmy's proud 5-1600 Baja convertible. Rookie driver
Alvin was to wheel the Baja while Vern was in the Magnum. With a 3 hour
time limit on 2.7 mile course and the Unlimited Class 10 cars in the back
of the field it was the making for some exciting race action.
At the drop of the flag Vern got out in front followed by the Soggy Bottom
crew and Alvin. Vern set a quick pace has he was in pursuit of the overall
lead on lap 2, Alvin was in 3rd setting a comfortable pace. On lap 4 the
Soggy Bottom team was in the pits, Alvin meanwhile suffered a rollover
and a broken tierod on lap 5 losing several laps as Crew Chief Walter and
Timmy made repairs. At the 1 hour mark Vern had settled in to 3rd overall
and had a cushion of 5 laps, Alvin had regained the fight and was holding a
steady pace the Soggy Bottom team was in and out of the pits but was still
in 2nd. At the completion of 1 hour 35 minutes Vern pitted, Walter fueled the
Magnum and Timmy grabbed the helm shortly afterwards Alvin was on the
as the Baja had sputtered to a stop after a quick fueling away he went.
Timmy cruised to the finish holding the 3rd overall position and adding 2
laps to the cushion in the process, Alvin visited the pits a 3rd time for a
splash of fuel to get to the finish.

Overall

1. Team Lupfer    58 laps

2. Sedler Racing  56 laps

3. Double W        51 laps

9. Double W (A)   34 laps
