    Double W sweeps Casey

Round 2 of the MAORA Short Course Series was on tap
this past weekend at the LTM facility in Casey, IL.
Torrential rains plagued the area on Friday night but the MAORA
officers were determined to get the race in by moving the start time
back to 4PM in the afternoon.

    Heat 1

Vern was on the pole and Timmy was on the outside of the front row,
at the start Vern got the holeshot and led the field in to a greasy turn 1.
Timmy had tucked in close behind as the 2 teammates diced and scraped
for the first 3 laps with side by side action. Vern slowly added to his lead
as the laps wound down and claimed the win with Timmy putting up a tough
fight in 2nd giving Team Double W the sweep.

    Heat 2

Timmy grabbed hold of the top spot from the start using his new gearbox to his
advantage, Vern was stalking Timmy as the 2 put on another show running 1-2
car lengths apart for the first 5 laps. Timmy was taking the wide line into turn 1
and Vern got a run grabbing the lead on lap 6 as the dicing continued. On lap 9
Vern was able to get some separation as the 2 began to run through lap traffic,
Timmy meanwhile hung tough again as the team again swept the podium in Heat 2.

    Heat 3

Timmy again got the holeshot and led the field through the Arena section of the
course while Vern was back in 3rd. Timmy began opening up a sizeable lead
as Vern was busy trying to grab the # 2 spot. On lap 2 Vern was back nipping
on the heels of Timmy as both drivers pushed their Phazer's to the limit. Turn 1
had become a series of ruts that sent the cars in the air much like the start/finish
line jump, meanwhile both drivers swapped lines looking for the advantage.
On lap 7 Vern was able to hold his line inside of turn 1 and get even with Timmy
as the 2 headed for the high banked turn 2, both drivers were on rails as Vern
gained advantage leading into lap 8. Again lap traffic would play a role as Vern
extended his lead only to have it go away as Timmy made one last charge on lap 10.
Vern again took the high groove in Turn 2 Timmy grabbed the win with a low line
move at the checkers winning in a photo finish.

    Overall

    Vern 1st
    Timmy 2nd
