July 28 Double W wins again as Walker joins the MAORA Roll Over ClubThe Double W racers ventured out last week to MAORA's
newest racing facility in Bone Gap, IL last weekend. And
what an adventure it was the new facility was fast, wide
and hilly with a lot of natural terrain and some man made
jumps that led to some high flying quick paced race action
for the attending fans.
HEAT 1
With an abreast land rush start, Vern quickly grabbed the top
spot followed closely by Timmy and the pesky Lucas Oil entry.
All 3 cars were working hard at the front of the pack and hunting
for the groove on this new track. On lap 3 Vern began to distance
himself from Timmy and Lucas who were in a heated battle for
the #2 spot. As the heat wound towards the checkers Vern was
picking 1-2 seconds a lap Timmy had his hand full with the Lucas
hot rod but held his ground, pulling away at the finish.
Heat 2
Timmy quickly nabbed first place with Vern in tow as the 2 battled
on the overwatered course, in turn 3 Timmy slid off course allowing
Vern by and the 2 resumed the battle with the positions reversed.
Timmy stalked Vern all heat as the twisty course dried the 2 Double
W cars were some 8 seconds/lap off the first heat pace due to the
slick conditions. On lap 9 in turn 9 a downhill 180 degree turn Timmy
got bit as he bicycled and rolled. After some delay Timmy was right
side up and finished losing 1 position.
Heat 3
The MAORA officials and Race Director shortened the course by
eliminating the tricky turn 9 after 3 truck roll-overs so the pace was
furious in Heat 3 as Timmy grabbed the lead again and Vern was
close behind, these 2 displayed some very close racing for the first
5 laps. On lap 6 Vern got a run in turn 3 and slipped by after some
minor contact, Timmy meanwhile was now on the hunt. On lap 7
Vern got wide in turn 6 allowing Timmy to once again grab the lead
that he held to the finish.
Overall
Vern 1st
Timmy 2nd

July 01 Double W Racing fly to 1st and 2nd @ CrossroadsWith temperatures in the mid 80's and overcast skies
Double W Racing was back in action in full force @ Crossroads
MX Club in rural Mason, IL this past weekend. Pilots Timmy and
Vern had the Phazers ready to race in this high flying fast paced
course. 6 inches of rain in 5 days couldn't slow down the track
workers @ Crossroads as the course was in perfect shape at the
start of the 3 heats which led to the fastest laps turned by the
MAORA competitors this year.
Qualifying:
Timmy was first to hit course and slipped and slid his way to 3rd
place starting position. Vern circled the course in 1:55 to snag the
pole and fastest overall time for the day.
Heat 1
When the Chief Starter raised the flag Vern grabbed the holeshot
followed by the Lucas Oil entry and Timmy all the racers worked
hard the first few laps trying to make time on the fast technical
course. On lap 2 the Lucas car presented a challenge for the lead
in turn 6 only to be turned away by Vern meanwhile Timmy was
working hard in 3rd position. On lap 3 the Lucas hot rod began to
fade giving Timmy the chance to grab 2nd while the 4th place car
was a 1/2 lap back. At the finish Vern was able to use his cushion to
motor to the checkers with Timmy in 2nd lapping the rest of the field.
Heat 2
With the Lucas Oil car repaired and on the inside Vern again grabbed
the holeshot in a slick turn 1 the Lucas car grabbed the lead followed
closely by Vern and Timmy. The young Oilman was up to the task as he
worked hard at the front of the field building a 5 second lead only to have
it evaporate fighting with lapped traffic Vern made one last move for the
lead on lap 9 but it wasn't enough as he settled for 2nd, Timmy was cruising
in the dust nailed down 3rd again lapping the 4th place vehicle.
Heat 3
The Team Double W cars raced to the front of the pack and stayed there with
Vern leading the way and Timmy in tow with close racing for the first 2 laps.
The Lucas car with a relief driver aboard was a distant 3rd as Timmy and Vern
displayed the superb handling characteristics of the Phazer Chassis were running
laps 3-5 seconds a lap faster than the competiton ran 1 and 2 from green flag to
the checkers giving Team Double W their second 1-2 finish in 2007.
