July 22 Double W Racing back on the winning trackThunderstorms and hot temperatures greeted the Double
W Racing team this past weekend at the LTM facility in
Casey, IL.
After waiting out the weather and hard work by the LTM
track crew the conditions were hot as the racing action
and the track was in optimum condition for the start of
Round 4 of the MAORA Racing Short Course Series.
Heat 1
Vern led the field off the greasy starting grid followed closely
by Timmy and the Over the Limit entry as all the competitors
adjusted to the reconfigured course with no practice.
In turn 3 Timmy got by Vern as the 2 headed uphill to the
back section of the course where Vern got a run to reclaim
the top position. The OTL team wasn't far behind as the cars
quickened the pace. Vern was able to open up a slight cushion
and Timmy was fending off the OTL team as heat came to close.
Heat 2
Vern got the holeshot as the field bunched up in turn 1, the OTL
hotrod had claimed 2nd place and Timmy was giving them a
mirror full. Vern again escaped to a 10 second lead as the fight
for 2nd intensified with every lap. On lap 8 the OTL car got out
of shape in the downhill jump section leading to turn 1 and Timmy
capitalized and made a run to grab 2nd and held it to the finish.
Heat 3
With the track drying and teams pondering tire changes the action
was at the front of the field, Vern again had grabbed the lead only
to be stalked by Timmy. These 2 stayed anywhere from 2-5 car lengths
apart the whole heat as Vern claimed the victory for the day and Timmy
nailed down 2nd the OTL entry hung on for 3rd which was very respectable
after a 5 year hiatus.
Overall
Vern 1st
Timmy 2nd
Team OTL 3rd
