    2009 MAORA Season Opener

Double W Racing was in action last weekend venturing
to the LTM Off Road park in Casey, IL for the 2009
MAORA season opening event. Both Timmy and Vern
had their respective Phazers ready for battle with a tough
field of competitors including 4 TORC regulars.
At the pre-race drawing Timmy drew the 4th pill, Vern
    drew the 8th.

    Heat 1

At the launch both Double W cars wound up mid pack
as the field sorted out. The Lucas Oil entry had grabbed
the lead with Timmy and Vern battling for the 4th position.
On lap 2 the Double W guys swapped positions, the action
was non stop as the laps unfolded. The Lucas Oil entry had
opened up a cushion and held it to the checkers, Vern and
Timmy lost positions on lap 9 to the Fitz hot rod and wound up
    5th and 6th.

    Heat 2

An inverted start had both Phazers in the front row, Vern managed
to come out of turn 1 in 3rd position, Timmy was close behind in
4th. Again the Lucas car got away and was holding the lead, Vern
was holding his own in 3rd when an ignition anomoly struck causing
him to fade to a 6th place finish. Timmy battled hard and maintained
the 4th spot at the finish.

    Heat 3

This heat was action packed as well, Alvin was subbing for Timmy and
Vern was out to capture a podium finish. A turn 1 melee had all the cars
scattered and dicing for postion. Vern temporarily held down the 3rd spot
while Alvin was back in 7th. There was a tough battle at the front of the
pack with Fitz, Lucas and the Rolling Thunder cars all mixing it up. Vern
moved up to the 3rd spot on lap 4, Alvin had made the move to 5th while
adjusting to the freshly watered course.
As the laps wound down Vern held on to a strong challenge for the 3rd spot
Alvin fought hard to capture the 5th place.

    Overall Vern 4th Timmy 5th

Double W Racing conquers all at 2008 Can Am Challenge

The last event of 2008 had Team Double W trekking back
to the LTM facility in Casey, IL for 2nd annual LTOR Can Am
Challenge. In the weeks prior Vern prepped the teams Magnum
1 seater while fitting it with the Casper Racing 1200 grenade.
Team member Alvin was selected to operate the vehicle in
the 120 mile Baja style endurance race with Vern and Walter
    manning the pits.
A 2 inch rainfall the evening before the race contributed to the
treacherous conditions this was to be test of survival for all the
vehicles. At the start Alvin settled in the 5th overall position which
he held for the first 3 laps after the Hillbilly team fell back due to
transmission woes. On lap 5 Alvin had diced through the mud and
traffic to take the top spot, he ran consistent laps building a 2 minute
cushion by lap 15 which he held until pitting on lap 21 for fuel, goggles,
and gloves. Vern and Walter made quick work of the stop and Alvin
was back in action regaining the overall lead on lap 26. During the
2nd half of the race the competitors began to drop as the result of
the conditions and Alvin again began to build his cushion.
As then laps wound down Alvin had the mighty 1200 performing at
a high level burying the competition winning by a margin of 4 laps
capturing the overall win and capturing the "Top Gun" award and
    winning his first race.

Double W claims 2008 MAORA Class 16 Championships

Awesome weather and perfect track conditions greeted the
Double W Racing team when they arrived at the LTM facility
in Casey, IL last weekend. The LTM crew had worked hard the
last month to make the track wider, faster and the jumps larger.
Team Double W was 3 cars strong with Timmy and Vern in the
traditional 2 seat Phazer's and Rookie Alvin the bodyman in the
    teams classic 5-1600 convertible.

    Heat 1

Vern took the holeshot from the pole position with the Over the
Limit team and Timmy close behind. Also in the mix was the 2
Lucas Oil hotrods, a Floridian, and Alvin who was racing in his
first Short Course event. Vern held the lead until lap 3 when
Lucas Oil #1 got by, Timmy was busy wrestling the Floridian
while chasing the OTL 2 seater. The Lucas car was experiening
a throttle problem as Vern regained the point on lap 7 and held it
to the finish. Timmy disposed of the Floridian but couldn't reel in the
OTL entry finishing 3rd, Alvin was a bit back as he was getting used
    to the fast paced action

    Heat 2

With the field inverted the Lucas hot rod quickly grabbed the lead
and never looked back while the rest of the pack appeared to be
chained together. The positions got swapped several times during
the last 6 laps as Timmy, Vern the OTL and Floridian put on some
of the best race action of the season. At the finish Timmy slipped
from 2nd to 4th, the OTL entry had gained a spot to grab 2nd, Vern
struggled to the 3rd spot and the Floridian had drifted back to the 5th
    place.

    Heat 3

With all the marbles on the line Vern again grabbbed the holeshot
followed closely by Timmy and the OTL car. The Lucas hotrod got
held up in traffic only to track Vern down on lap 5 to make the pass.
Meanwhile Timmy and the OTL car continued their battle for position
and Alvin was on the heels of the pack with the over weight Baja.
On lap 7 Lucas spun and gave Vern another shot at the lead but it
wasn't enough to keep the young oilman from the heat win. As the
laps counted down the OTL entry was able to secure the 3rd position
followed closely by Timmy. The Floridian came home in 5th and Alvin
    6th.

    Overall

    Vern 1st

    Timmy 4th

    Alvin 6th

    120 mile ENDURO

A strong field of cars in Class 16 were launched 30 seconds
behind the Unlimited class with Alvin grabbing the lead in Timmy's
Phazer. Vern and the Floridian followed for 2 laps when the southerner
got by both Vern and Alvin using the bypass at the second creek crossing.
On lap 3 Vern got by Avin to grab 2nd as all cars had settled into a steady
pace. On lap 10 Vern made the move to first by overpowering the southerner
on the back stretch meanwhile Alvin was getting heat from the OTL car.
Vern pitted on lap 17 for fuel and had an extended stop getting the front end
looked over, the OTL car pitted just after Vern and Avin was in for a splash
on lap 18. Meanwhile the Floridian never pitted using a large fuel cell and a
steady pace to his advantage. Alvin and the OTL car pressed one another over
the closing laps and Vern faded with an fuel/ignition issue. At the checkers
the Floridian had about a 3/4 lap lead the OTL car grabbed 2nd, Alvin was 3rd.

Tough luck strikes Team Double W

The Double W race team had mixed results during
round 5 of the MAORA Racing Series in Casey, IL.
With a limited number of entrants Team Double W
elected to "bump up" to Class 10 a field of 2500cc
    powered cars with 200+ horsepower.

    Heat 1

Both Timmy and Vern elected to start from the back
row in order to stay clear of the high powered cars in
    this class.
At the start the Weaver trucking Magnum grabbed the
top spot followed by the Sedlar Racing entry Vern and
Timmy fell in line in 5th and 6th respectively.
The top side of the course was very dusty as the limited
cars struggled at the back of the field. Both Timmy and
Vern took turns dicing with the Remote Beverage entry
as the top 3 cars were able to pull away.
On lap 8 2 cars tangled allowing the Double W cars to
move up at the checkers Vern was 4th and Timmy 5th.

    Heat 2

Again a back row start was in order this time the race was
red flagged on lap 2 when the Drews Off Road car made it
    of course in the trees.
During the restart again the Weaver Trucking car again grabbed
the lead until an ignition problem dropped him 2nd in the running order
Timmy and Vern swapped 3rd  and 4th as both drivers fought the dust.
On lap 5 Timmy suffered an engine anomoly which did him in for the day.
Vern meanwhile had 3rd place in his sites and held it to the finish.

    Heat 3

Only 4 cars made it to the final heat, Vern took the outside starting
position. The Weaver Trucking rocket again got the holeshot as Vern
sruggled to the 4th position against the higher powered vehicles.
On lap 2 the Weaver hot rod pulled off course allowing everyone to
move up, Vern was running consistent laps reeling in the leader who
was suffering from an ignition problem as well. The 10 car still had too
much suspension for Vern to overcome as he took 2nd place in a close
    finish.

    Overall

    Vern 3rd

    Timmy 5th

    Enduro

The MAORA track workers had a fast course laid out for the competitors for the
30 lap enduro, but dust was going to be a problem.
Vern took to battle again with the Class 10 cars for the event, at the start he fell
into position and fell back due to the dust. On lap 12 the Double W car was in the
pits for fuel Vern got a cool drink and continued the battle after quick service by
Timmy. Vern was able to start picking off the slower trucks and eventually got to the
4th overall position before an engine failure struck ending the day on lap 19.

Double W Racing back on the winning track

Thunderstorms and hot temperatures greeted the Double
W Racing team this past weekend at the LTM facility in
    Casey, IL.
After waiting out the weather and hard work by the LTM
track crew the conditions were hot as the racing action
and the track was in optimum condition for the start of
Round 4 of the MAORA Racing Short Course Series.

    Heat 1

Vern led the field off the greasy starting grid followed closely
by Timmy and the Over the Limit entry as all the competitors
adjusted to the reconfigured course with no practice.
In turn 3 Timmy got by Vern as the 2 headed uphill to the
back section of the course where Vern got a run to reclaim
the top position. The OTL team wasn't far behind as the cars
quickened the pace. Vern was able to open up a slight cushion
and Timmy was fending off the OTL team as heat came to close.

    Heat 2

Vern got the holeshot as the field bunched up in turn 1, the OTL
hotrod had claimed 2nd place and Timmy was giving them a
mirror full. Vern again escaped to a 10 second lead as the fight
for 2nd intensified with every lap. On lap 8 the OTL car got out
of shape in the downhill jump section leading to turn 1 and Timmy
capitalized and made a run to grab 2nd and held it to the finish.

    Heat 3

With the track drying and teams pondering tire changes the action
was at the front of the field, Vern again had grabbed the lead only
to be stalked by Timmy. These 2 stayed anywhere from 2-5 car lengths
apart the whole heat as Vern claimed the victory for the day and Timmy
nailed down 2nd the OTL entry hung on for 3rd which was very respectable
    after a 5 year hiatus.

    Overall

    Timmy 2nd

Double W Racing successful in 2008 season opener.

Team Double W was in action this past weekend as the
2008 MAORA season opened at the LTM facility in Casey,
IL. An early season opener coupled with a very wet Spring
season had the conditions a little less than perfect at Casey.
Timmy and Vern skipped practice and the LTM track crew
worked hard to get the track dried for the fast paced action.

    HEAT 1

A blind draw had Vern inside middle and Timmy outside, Vern
got the holeshot only to be stalked by the Lucas Oil entry for
the first lap. Timmy meanwhile was stuck in traffic after the slick
conditions had him stuck in arrears. On Lap 2 the Lucas car
made the move to first, Vern fell in line as he was adapting to the
Magnum. Timmy made his move up to 3rd on lap 6 and held that
    position nursing his fresh motor.

    Heat 2

With Timmy on pole he wasted little time grabbing the holeshot
Lucas and Vern followed and both made bonzai moves on Timmy
in the uphill section of the course. Lucas used the outside momentum
as he bolted to the lead with Vern close behind. Timmy kept pace
with the leaders fighting mud and roost as the field headed for the
    checkers and finished that way.

    Heat 3

Vern again grabbed the holeshot on the slick starting grid and led the
field for the first 3 laps, Lucas got loose in turn 5 on lap 2 with Timmy
on his heels. On lap 3 Lucas once again had chased down Vern and
made the pass in turn 1 and was headed for the checkers, Timmy was
fighting hard in 3rd and claimed a hard fought 2nd when Vern suffered
    mechanical issues on lap 10.

    Overall: Timmy 2nd, Vern 3rd

    3 HOUR ENDURO

Sunday morning the team woke up to and overcast day as they prepped
Vern's Magnum and Timmy's proud 5-1600 Baja convertible. Rookie driver
Alvin was to wheel the Baja while Vern was in the Magnum. With a 3 hour
time limit on 2.7 mile course and the Unlimited Class 10 cars in the back
of the field it was the making for some exciting race action.
At the drop of the flag Vern got out in front followed by the Soggy Bottom
crew and Alvin. Vern set a quick pace has he was in pursuit of the overall
lead on lap 2, Alvin was in 3rd setting a comfortable pace. On lap 4 the
Soggy Bottom team was in the pits, Alvin meanwhile suffered a rollover
and a broken tierod on lap 5 losing several laps as Crew Chief Walter and
Timmy made repairs. At the 1 hour mark Vern had settled in to 3rd overall
and had a cushion of 5 laps, Alvin had regained the fight and was holding a
steady pace the Soggy Bottom team was in and out of the pits but was still
in 2nd. At the completion of 1 hour 35 minutes Vern pitted, Walter fueled the
Magnum and Timmy grabbed the helm shortly afterwards Alvin was on the
as the Baja had sputtered to a stop after a quick fueling away he went.
Timmy cruised to the finish holding the 3rd overall position and adding 2
laps to the cushion in the process, Alvin visited the pits a 3rd time for a
splash of fuel to get to the finish.

    Annual Turkey Day 100 Report

Team Double W's annual speedfest known as the Turkey Day 100
was held Friday under crisp cool conditions at the Hayton Farms
    testing facility in Carbondale IL.
The object is to get the younger generation involved in a day of
outdoor recreation that includes off roading, trail riding and even
wheel to wheel racing around the perimeter of the 120 acre spread.
Walter the oldest member of the clan tended the fire and manned
the pits keeping the quads full of fuel and providing instruction.
Timmy was on hand with his 5-1600 Baja complete with fresh
motor/transmission and dominated the speed charts early. Vern
did time in the WSORR test mule Magnum as the team continues
to work the bugs out of this machine. Body man Alvin did time
in both machines giving detailed feedback as his training continues
as he got both this daughters noses dirty in the process.
We got a flashback when Walter took the helm of the Baja and
turned in what appeared to be the fastest times of the day one
thing we know is he got the top honors according to the memory
tach with a whopping 6700 rpm shift in with all others at 6K or
below. The St. Louis chapter made the trip 4 strong with their off
road cart and turned laps be fore an ignition anomoly temporarily
stumped all the professional technicians in the group. Of course
Vern was trying to rig Type 1 VW parts on the Chinese mfg unit.
It now appears the team is headed into the off season with plenty
of work to get done before the 2008 season unfolds in the Spring.

    Pictures will be added later.

Double W claims Limited Buggy title @ LTOR Casey Fall Classic

Double W Racing's final event of 2007 was the LTOR 200K
Fall Classic at the LTM Off Road Park in Casey, IL. The team
has been preparing for this event since July as a test for Vern's
Magnum project as well as Timmy's Phazer. The team employed
the help from fellow racers from the Svanda Motorsports team, the
Over the Limit race team as well as introducing rookie driver Alvin
    the Bodyman to the mix.

After rain early in the week deposited water in both creek crossings
as well as the dust this was going to be a true test of man/machine.
The Limited cars were 3rd out of the box in this Baja style start racing
onto the course some 10 minutes in arrears of the front running Limited
Truck class. Svanda the Bullet quickly got to the front of the limited class
followed by the Canadien contingent Hillbilly Racing and Alvin aboard the
Magnum was hanging on in 3rd fighting the dust. At the completion of lap
1 the Magnum was out with a CV failure something the team would struggle
with the first 2/3 of the race. The Bullet meanwhile wasted no time reeling
in the front runners and quickly had a 1/2 lap cushion on the Canadiens.
This continued til the Bullet made it to the Overall lead just before the 1/2 way
point claiming a Warn winch prize in the process. The Magnum and Alvin had
rejoined the fight meanwhile several laps down only to suffer another CV failure
after completing lap 4. On lap 14 the Canadiens were out with a CV failure after a
valient effort to keep pace with the Bullet who was tearing the course up in the
unrestricted Phazer. As lap 18 approached the Bullet became dangerously low on
fuel and had to pit the Double W guys gave it gas and looked over the powerplant
and away the Bullet went back to work. During the pit stop Team Scherer had
assumed the Overall lead enjoying a 1/2 lap cushion, which the Bullet was out to
erase. The Magnum was now back on course with GSpear @ the controls running
consistant laps after Walters make-shift limiting strap was installed. During the
last 10 laps the Bullet kept setting the course on fire and GSpear fought carb
anamolies and had to pit twice as the Double W guys kept working hard. At the
finish the Bullet wasn't able to make up the lost time in the pits but claimed the
Limited Buggy crown, the Magnum did make it to the checkers only completing
    9 laps.

    MAORA Fall Casey report

Double W Racing attended the MAORA Fall Casey race the
last weekend of September. With warm fall weather and
dry, dusty conditions the team was in full force with Crew
Chief Walter in attendance who even got in some practice
time in Vern's Phazer. A blind draw for the starting positions
had Vern 2nd and Timmy 5th.

    Heat 1

Vern grabbed the holeshot and rode the rim in turn 1 to grab
the lead with the Lucas Oil entry on his heels, Timmy fought
through traffic and followed Verns lead to settle in 3rd. This
action at the front of the pack continued until Lap 5 when
Vern suffered a left rear stub axle failure in turn 2 allowing
everyone to move up 1 place. Timmy kept fighting the dust
to stay in contention with the Lucas hot rod held down 2nd
    place to the checkers

    Heat 2

With Timmy proudly parked on pole the Double W duo got off
to great start in with Vern following Timmy through turn 1
meanwhile the Lucas car had to fight traffic this time. In turn
2 both Double W cars slid off line allowing the Lucas car to
grab the lead, Timmy got back in line and assumed chase
mode Vern was a bit back fighting the mud on the over
watered course. These 3 cars continued to fight it out over
the next 3 laps Vern made pass on Timmy on the top side of
the course on lap 4 and got by Lucas in the same spot on lap
    5. As the laps wound down Timmy fought back a challenge from
the Cornhusker and Vern was able to hang on to claim the heat
    win.

    Heat 3

The original starting places awarded, Vern again got the holeshot
closely trailed by Lucas and Timmy. The action was tight at the
front of the pack as Vern was stalked. On lap 3 Lucas made the
pass as Vern tucked in behind, Timmy also was pushing his Phazer
and keeping pace. On lap 6 Vern got snakebit again with a tranny
failure as Timmy began the chase for first. As the laps wound down
Timmy settled in a comfortable pace to nail down 2nd for the day.

    Overall

    Timmy 2nd
    Vern 3rd

    40 lap Enduro

With Vern's car out the team took the task in Timmy's trusty Phazer.
Vern started and led the Class for ther first 3 laps when the Lucas car
went flying by setting a fast pace. The first 1/2 of the race Vern ran a
steady pace trying to stay out of the dust hazards around the tricky
3.5 mile course. This strategy worked as Vern regained the lead when
the competition had to stop for fuel. A unpredicted red flag stopped the
the racing action on lap 18 when the team made a driver/fuel stop with
Timmy climbing aboard. At the restart Timmy didn't make a lap when
a clutch cable failure sent him to the pits the Double W guys frantically
changed the cable but lost 6 laps. Timmy quickly got back in to the race
with victory seemingly out of reach the Lucas car experienced a throttle
cable failure allowing Team Double W back in the game. Timmy was busy
making up time as he struggled with the traffic and dust caught a break
when the Lucas entry suffered an engine failure on lap 30 handing the
lead to Team ASE. Timmy was still 2 laps down with time running out
suffered a front suspension failure on the backstretch of the course
ending his day after 30 laps with a 2nd place finish.

    WSORR Wheatland update

Double W Bumped up to race with the WSORR regulars at the Lucas
Oil Speedway in rural Wheatland, Mo the weekend of September 22-
    23. The team @ Double W worked hard the weeks prior in order to
modify Vern's Phazer by adding the necessary cockpit structural
enhancemants and driver aids to compete in the fast growing WSORR
    series.

    Friday Practice:

With the track crew struggling to get the right track watering consistency
the Class 1600 cars were released with a very slick track which led
to Vern posting the 6th fastest time in practice right in the middle of the
field. Afterwards it was disovered the lower right front trailing arm bushing
failed causing some Friday night maintenance.

    Saturday Practice:

Vern and Timmy concluded to skip this practice session and watch the lines
of the other competitors throught the "arena" section of the facility.

    Saturday Race:

With Vern lined up in the back row and slick starting grid the Class 1600 cars
had a land rush start to the first corner just prior 2 cars got together from
row 1 and sent perennial Class 1600 Champ Mark Steinhardt tumbling ending
his day. Vern had trouble in turn 1 and slid wide and got in line in position 12
only to pass 2 cars on the first lap and another on lap 3. All the cars were
gaining speed through the first laps as the they began to sort out this new track.
On lap 4 Vern had progressed to the 6th position trying to hang on to the lead
pack when transmission failure struck ending his day. As the laps wound down
several cars had problems with this technical track and broke as well Vern
    woundup in the 9th position.
The Double W crew worked late in the night to repair the broken side gear in
    order to compete on Sunday.

    Sunday Practice:

Again the team decided to skip practice and concentrate on prepping the Phazer
for the Class 1600 fight later that day.

    Sunday race:

With a back row outside position Vern came through turn 1 better, with carnage
on the inside of the corner grabbing the 10th position. Vern followed the Lucas Oil
entry as they both began to climb through the field dicing with both champoinship
competitors Steinhardt and Fitzgerald. As the field settled in, Vern had moved up
to 8th place on lap 3 the Foreign Automotive entry went tumbling through the
infield as Vern went by. On lap 8 Vern got by the Lucas hot rod when it spun and
developed a flat front tire, and headed to the checkers with a 7th place finish
completing lap times a tick off of the leaders.
Overall it was a long tough weekend and without Crew Chief "Timmy the
Foreman" the Phazer would have been stuck on the sidelines.

Double W streak reaches 4 as the rollovers continue

Team Double W was back in action this past weekend on a cloudy
rain threatned day @ the Soggy Bottom Raceway in Greenup, IL.
After a steady rain on Friday night and some sprinkles Saturday
morning the race course was in perfect shape for fast paced MAORA
    style short course racing.

    Heat 1

With a number draw for starting positions Timmy was inside, Vern
and the Lucas Oil entry on the outside. At the flag Vern using his
Goodyears got the edge with the Lucas car and Timmy in tow, on
lap 2 Timmy got loose in  the marbles in turn 2 giving the Lucas car
a cushion meanwhile Vern was working hard in first. This action
continued as the pace quickened on the well manicured track. On lap
6 the Lucas Oil car began to fade with Timmy closing the gap in turn
5 suffered a huge barrel-rolling crash which caused a caution for 2 laps
before the corner workers could remove the carnage.  Afterwards Vern
sped to the checkers followed distantly by Timmy to nail down another
    Double W 1-2 finish.

    Heat 2

With Lucas Oil car on the trailer with post crash rear suspension failure, Timmy
and Vern had side by side starting positions. At the start Timmy got the holeshot
paced the field for the first lap with Vern following closely in 2nd. On lap 2 Timmy
left the door open in turn 4 giving Vern the space he needed to get by, these 2
diced nose to tail for the duration of the heat until getting mixed up in lap traffic.
Vern again paced the field to the checkers with Timmy close behind.

    Heat 3

The Double W pilots decided to swap cars for this heat which made for some
action. At the start Timmy commanded the lead as he quickly adapted to the
new car, meanwhile Vern struggled for the first 3 laps getting used to the different
gear ratios of Timmy trusty Phazer. As the heat progressed Timmy maintained
his position at the point running smooth consistant laps while Vern was up on the
wheel playing catch up. Vern was able to slowly reduce Timmys 7 second lead
until lap 8 when he spun in turn 3 eliminating any progress. Timmy coasted to the
checkers while Vern made 1 last ditch effort, on lap 10 rolling in turn 3 with evidence
being recorded by MAORA's official photographer Phyllis Blume.

    Overall

    Vern 1st

    Timmy 2nd

Double W wins again as Walker joins the MAORA Roll Over Club

The Double W racers ventured out last week to MAORA's
newest racing facility in Bone Gap, IL last weekend. And
what an adventure it was the new facility was fast, wide
and hilly with a lot of natural terrain and some man made
jumps that led to some high flying quick paced race action
    for the attending fans.

    HEAT 1

With an abreast land rush start, Vern quickly grabbed the top
spot followed closely by Timmy and the pesky Lucas Oil entry.
All 3 cars were working hard at the front of the pack and hunting
for the groove on this new track. On lap 3 Vern began to distance
himself from Timmy and Lucas who were in a heated battle for
the #2 spot. As the heat wound towards the checkers Vern was
picking 1-2 seconds a lap Timmy had his hand full with the Lucas
hot rod but held his ground, pulling away at the finish.

    Heat 2

Timmy quickly nabbed first place with Vern in tow as the 2 battled
on the overwatered course, in turn 3 Timmy slid off course allowing
Vern by and the 2 resumed the battle with the positions reversed.
Timmy stalked Vern all heat as the twisty course dried the 2 Double
W cars were some 8 seconds/lap off the first heat pace due to the
slick conditions. On lap 9 in turn 9 a downhill 180 degree turn Timmy
got bit as he bicycled and rolled. After some delay Timmy was right
side up and finished losing 1 position.

    Heat 3

The MAORA officials and Race Director shortened the course by
eliminating the tricky turn 9 after 3 truck roll-overs so the pace was
furious in Heat 3 as Timmy grabbed the lead again and Vern was
close behind, these 2 displayed some very close racing for the first
5 laps. On lap 6 Vern got a run in turn 3 and slipped by after some
minor contact, Timmy meanwhile was now on the hunt. On lap 7
Vern got wide in turn 6 allowing Timmy to once again grab the lead
that he held to the finish.

    Overall

    Vern 1st

    Timmy 2nd

Double W Racing fly to 1st and 2nd @ Crossroads

With temperatures in the mid 80's and overcast skies
Double W Racing was back in action in full force @ Crossroads
MX Club in rural Mason, IL this past weekend. Pilots Timmy and
Vern had the Phazers ready to race in this high flying fast paced
course. 6 inches of rain in 5 days couldn't slow down the track
workers @ Crossroads as the course was in perfect shape at the
start of the 3 heats which led to the fastest laps turned by the
    MAORA competitors this year.

    Qualifying:

Timmy was first to hit course and slipped and slid his way to 3rd
place starting position. Vern circled the course in 1:55 to snag the
pole and fastest overall time for the day.

    Heat 1

When the Chief Starter raised the flag Vern grabbed the holeshot
followed by the Lucas Oil entry and Timmy all the racers worked
hard the first few laps trying to make time on the fast technical
course. On lap 2 the Lucas car presented a challenge for the lead
in turn 6 only to be turned away by Vern meanwhile Timmy was
working hard in 3rd position. On lap 3 the Lucas hot rod began to
fade giving Timmy the chance to grab 2nd while the 4th place car
was a 1/2 lap back. At the finish Vern was able to use his cushion to
motor to the checkers with Timmy in 2nd lapping the rest of the field.

    Heat 2

With the Lucas Oil car repaired and on the inside Vern again grabbed
the holeshot in a slick turn 1 the Lucas car grabbed the lead followed
closely by Vern and Timmy. The young Oilman was up to the task as he
worked hard at the front of the field building a 5 second lead only to have
it evaporate fighting with lapped traffic Vern made one last move for the
lead on lap 9 but it wasn't enough as he settled for 2nd, Timmy was cruising
in the dust nailed down 3rd again lapping the 4th place vehicle.

    Heat 3

The Team Double W cars raced to the front of the pack and stayed there with
Vern leading the way and Timmy in tow with close racing for the first 2 laps.
The Lucas car with a relief driver aboard was a distant 3rd as Timmy and Vern
displayed the superb handling characteristics of the Phazer Chassis were running
laps 3-5 seconds a lap faster than the competiton ran 1 and 2 from green flag to
the checkers giving Team Double W their second 1-2 finish in 2007.
