Podiums continue for Team Double W
The Double W Racing team was back in action in mid-August
traveling to the LTM facility in Casey, IL to compete once
again in Round 5 of 2009 MAORA Short Course Series.
The track was a bit dry and dusty after the seasonal rains had
subsided for the last few weeks giving the LTM crew breathing
room by not having to overhaul the course on race day like Rounds
1 and 2.
Heat 1
Both Double W Racing drivers battled long and hard all afternoon
pushing their cars to the limits in all 3 heats as they diced for the lead.
Vern got the holeshot with Timmy close behind as the duo checked
out from the field. The dry track was suitable to both drivers as the
pace quickened, Vern slowly added to his lead meanwhile Timmy
was hitting his marks finding speed in the corners.
As the heat ended Vern's lead had grown to 7-8 seconds while Timmy
cruised to 2nd place some 30 seconds ahead of the 3rd place car.
Heat 2
Not to be out done Timmy drove his Phazer hard into turn 1 to wrestle
the lead on lap 1, Vern followed in line and began stalking. As the laps
wound down Vern was able to pull even but Timmy wasn't budging
holding his line leading this heat to the checkers beating Vern to the line
by 1 second.
Heat 3
Vern rode the pole position to another holeshot but Timmy was determined
not to let him get away as the 2 began battle for the third heat in a row.
Both drivers were working hard to maintain their positions on lap 6 Timmy
got by on the topside of the course and Vern then began the chase. On lap 8
Timmy got loose coming off turn 3 allowing Vern to pull even as the 2 battled
side by side with overall win in the balance, Timmy once again came out on top
to claim his first victory of the year.
Overall
Timmy 1st
Vern 2nd
