Double W Racing sweeps Marengo

The busy Double W Racing team was back in action the week
after Labor Day with another MAORA event at Marengo Indiana's
4H Fairgrounds.
Team drivers Timmy, Vern and Alvin all saw action as Double W
was one of the favorites after capturing the previous event on the
7 turn twisty "Short Track" in Southern Indiana. This event was a
night race under the lights which fit nicely into the teams hectic schedule.
Team member Alvin even brought along a grill complete with BBQ pork
and all the fixins that the boys gnarled on all evening.
Mechanics Race
Alvin took the helm of Vern's Magnum and wasted little time bolting to
the lead on the slick technical track, running consistent laps hitting his
marks was never headed completing the six laps without a hitch to claim
the victory complete with a winners circle interview in front of the crowd.
Heat 1
With Timmy fresh off claiming the 3rd place award in the long jump contest
and Vern on pole the action was fast paced at the start. Vern used the hole
shot to his advantage to grab the lead while Timmy wrestled his way to 2nd
place after 2 laps. Both Double W drivers were the class of the field as they
distanced themselves from the Off Road Center hot rod who was in 3rd place.
Vern was able to hang on to the lead until the finish with Timmy close behind as
the laps wound down.
Heat 2
The Lucas Oil entry, a local fan favorite, grabbed the lead in Heat 2 with Vern on
his heels and Timmy close behind. On lap 2 the Oil rod spun in turn 3 allowing
both Double W cars by as Vern set sail to the finish, the Lucas entry and Timmy
battled long and hard swapping positions several times with a lot of contact being
 made.
Finally on lap 6 Timmy's pace slowed as the noise from his right rear suspension
began to grow. At the finish Vern took the heat win, Lucas came across in 2nd,
and Timmy limped home in 3rd.
Feature
In this heat the young Oil man grabbed the lead and never looked back as he set
a quick pace as Vern tried hard to reel him in to no avail, Timmy meanwhile
cruised to the 3rd place finish scoring enough points to capture 2nd overall for the
day giving Team Double W a sweep in the 2nd MAORA event in a row.

Overall
Vern 1st
Timmy 2nd

Sunday Enduro
With Alvin at the wheel of the Magnum taking the fight to the High powered Class
10 cars the team readied for the 2 hour endurance race.
At the start Alvin fell in line grabbing the 4th place position as he adjusted to the
1.6 mile wooded course and navigating in the dust. He was running consistent laps
not far off the pace set by the Lucas Oil Class 10 car who was the leader.
On lap 8 the 4wd Real Source car was in the pits after a clutch failure and Alvin
was there to grab the 3rd overall position. Lap 13 saw the retirement of pre-race
favorite and tough competitor the Off Road Center Class 10 car, meanwhile the
Drew's racing entry was in and out of the pits with and engine anomaly allowing
Alvin to climb to the 2nd overall position. The Lucas car was setting a blistering
pace getting out to a 1 lap lead as the field navigated through the middle portion
of the race. On lap 38 turn 1 snuck up and got Alvin inducing a roll as he caught
a rut, the MAORA track workers quickly got him upright and he rejoined the
fight now 3 laps in arrears still in 2nd place. A quick pit stop for fuel on lap 45
allowed Alvin the means to cruise to the finish struggling with clutch failure in the
last few laps finishing in 2nd place in class and 3rd overall duplicating the feat
Timmy and Vern had done in July.

Double W Racing teamed up with Casper Racing to attend the
TORC Series Round 9 and 10 held in Crandon, Wisconsin Labor
day weekend. Dubbed as the "World Championship Off Road Races"
it has become famous nationwide as the best of the best attend this yearly
festival of speed.
Team members Walter, Timmy, Vern and Donnie were in attendance as they
participated in the downtown parade and racing Saturday and Sunday.
World Championship Saturday
Vern was at the helm of the trusty Phazer on Saturday with only 2 laps of practice
turned in the 8th quickest time out of the 15 cars that participated.
With a 17th place starting position in the back row it was going to be a tough
task to make it to the top 10 with some of the fastest racers in the country.
Vern got a clean start and crossed the line in 17th begin the 8 lap dash to the
checkers, in the early stages of the race there were several caution flags due to
crashes and spins, Vern was able to navigate past these while climbing to the
12th position at the 1/2 way mark. On lap 5 Vern made it to the 10th position
with 2 passes, and on lap 8 got to the 9th position after a competitor blew an
engine where he was able to finish.
Sara Lee 1600 Buggy Sunday

years of Crandon racing to the test against the best in the nation.

fight in turn 1 as he hung on the heels of the points leaders crossing the line
in 12th position on lap 1 as the dicing began. Ponder held his position as he
adjusted to the track conditions and handling of the Phazer. Donnie held this
position while getting challenges in numerous spots around the course but fought
back and maintained as the race approached the 1/2 way point. On lap 5 he was
able to pick up a position and another challenge was mounting from the rear, again
he held off the challenges for 3 laps as the crafty veteran ran some very clean lines.
On lap 8 he lost the challenge slipping the 12th postion on the back side of the
course and held it to the finish.

Podiums continue for Team Double W

The Double W Racing team was back in action in mid-August
traveling to the LTM facility in Casey, IL to compete once
again in Round 5 of 2009 MAORA Short Course Series.
The track was a bit dry and dusty after the seasonal rains had
subsided for the last few weeks giving the LTM crew breathing
room by not having to overhaul the course on race day like Rounds
1 and 2.

Heat 1
Both Double W Racing drivers battled long and hard all afternoon
pushing their cars to the limits in all 3 heats as they diced for the lead.
Vern got the holeshot with Timmy close behind as the duo checked
out from the field. The dry track was suitable to both drivers as the
pace quickened, Vern slowly added to his lead meanwhile Timmy
was hitting his marks finding speed in the corners.
As the heat ended Vern's lead had grown to 7-8 seconds while Timmy
cruised to 2nd place some 30 seconds ahead of the 3rd place car.

Heat 2
Not to be out done Timmy drove his Phazer hard into turn 1 to wrestle
the lead on lap 1, Vern followed in line and began stalking. As the laps
wound down Vern was able to pull even but Timmy wasn't budging
holding his line leading this heat to the checkers beating Vern to the line
by 1 second.

Heat 3
Vern rode the pole position to another holeshot but Timmy was determined
not to let him get away as the 2 began battle for the third heat in a row.
Both drivers were working hard to maintain their positions on lap 6 Timmy
got by on the topside of the course and Vern then began the chase. On lap 8
Timmy got loose coming off turn 3 allowing Vern to pull even as the 2 battled
side by side with overall win in the balance, Timmy once again came out on top
to claim his first victory of the year.

Timmy 1st
Vern 2nd

Double W invades Marengo

Southern Indiana's Crawford County Fair was the site for Round 4
of the MAORA Racing Series as cool weather with overcast skies prevailed.
Timmy and Vern made the trek on Friday to participate in the Fair events and
get a line on the new course set in Marengo, Indiana.
On raceday a nice crowd welcomed the racers waiting eagerly to witness a new
style racing that MAORA provides.
Both Timmy and Vern made post practice adjustments as they were trying to get
dialed in to the short, twisty 7 turn track.

Heat 1
Vern grabbed the holeshot and was followed closely by the Lucas Oil hot rod in
front of  the hometown crowd meanwhile Timmy was struggling with equipment
problems. In turn 4 Lucas made the move to the lead as Vern fell in line adjusting
to the freshly watered track. Timmy worked hard for the next several laps and got
back to 3rd as Vern and the young Oilman traded the lead with the hometown hero
prevailing.

Heat 2
The Lucas hot rod wasted little time grabbing the holeshot and checked out as Timmy
and Vern diced and battled the entire heat for 2nd. On lap 5 the Double W duo encountered
lap traffic which bunched the field, Timmy battled tough and held the 2nd postion to the
finish as Vern struggled to adapt to the changing conditions of turn 1

Heat 3-Feature
With Vern grabbing the point, this heat was action packed at the front as the Lucas machine
stalked in every turn. Timmy meanwhile got stuck in traffic and bicycled in turn 1 was fighting
to get back to the front. Vern settled into a quick pace turning some of the fastest laps of the
day hitting his marks holding the lead, Timmy was back to fighting traffic and roost working his
way to 3rd. On lap 8 Vern had worked hard to get the edge when the Lucas car was knocked
out with a rear suspension problem, Timmy assumed the 2nd spot as team Double W swept the
top 2 spots and held them to the finish.

Overall
Vern 1st, Timmy 3rd

Sunday Enduro
The Enduro race was the last event of the weekend with a track consisting of the Saturday's Short
Course and a loop carved out of the Southern Indiana wilderness amounting to 1.5 miles in length.
Team Double W chose to run Vern's Magnum in this event bumping to Class 10 making a strong
field of 8 competitors. With a back row starting spot the strategy was to outlast the higher powered
Class 10 regulars a feat that Double W worked with success. Timmy got out to steady pace settling
in the 5th spot running on the heels of the Fat Guy racing entry. On lap 5 Timmy made the move to the
4th position as the Drew's racing entry pitted on lap 8 the FGR entry was out and Timmy moved to 3rd
with a steady pace. On lap 19 Timmy entered the pits and Vern grabbed the wheel after a quick splash
of fuel from Hog the action continued with TDW 2 laps down. In the 2nd half of the race Vern ran the
same steady pace sticking to the original plan of outlasting the competition. On lap 28 The Weaver Racing
team had a minor problem allowing Vern to grab the 2nd spot and setting up a sprint to the finish.
Vern and the Magnum were up to the task arriving at the checkers with lap to spare in 2nd place and 3rd
overall.

Double W sweeps Casey

Round 2 of the MAORA Short Course Series was on tap
this past weekend at the LTM facility in Casey, IL.
Torrential rains plagued the area on Friday night but the MAORA
officers were determined to get the race in by moving the start time
back to 4PM in the afternoon.

Heat 1

Vern was on the pole and Timmy was on the outside of the front row,
at the start Vern got the holeshot and led the field in to a greasy turn 1.
Timmy had tucked in close behind as the 2 teammates diced and scraped
for the first 3 laps with side by side action. Vern slowly added to his lead
as the laps wound down and claimed the win with Timmy putting up a tough
fight in 2nd giving Team Double W the sweep.

Heat 2

Timmy grabbed hold of the top spot from the start using his new gearbox to his
advantage, Vern was stalking Timmy as the 2 put on another show running 1-2
car lengths apart for the first 5 laps. Timmy was taking the wide line into turn 1
and Vern got a run grabbing the lead on lap 6 as the dicing continued. On lap 9
Vern was able to get some separation as the 2 began to run through lap traffic,
Timmy meanwhile hung tough again as the team again swept the podium in Heat 2.

Heat 3

Timmy again got the holeshot and led the field through the Arena section of the
course while Vern was back in 3rd. Timmy began opening up a sizeable lead
as Vern was busy trying to grab the # 2 spot. On lap 2 Vern was back nipping
on the heels of Timmy as both drivers pushed their Phazer's to the limit. Turn 1
had become a series of ruts that sent the cars in the air much like the start/finish
line jump, meanwhile both drivers swapped lines looking for the advantage.
On lap 7 Vern was able to hold his line inside of turn 1 and get even with Timmy
as the 2 headed for the high banked turn 2, both drivers were on rails as Vern
gained advantage leading into lap 8. Again lap traffic would play a role as Vern
extended his lead only to have it go away as Timmy made one last charge on lap 10.
Vern again took the high groove in Turn 2 Timmy grabbed the win with a low line
move at the checkers winning in a photo finish.

Timmy 2nd
